Good morning. This is Your Insurance Connection. I'm your host, Donald Marquez. On your Insurance Connection, we talk about saving money on auto insurance, homeowner's insurance, yes, and we talk about life insurance. Welcome to the show.

Donald Marquez
0:00:46
Good morning, my name is Donald Marquez. because this is your insurance connection broadcasting right here at KUNV 91.5 Jazz and More Sunday morning from 8am to 8.30am. Yes happy Sunday everybody. You know I hope you had a good week and let's move forward with some insurance information. I'm a licensed insurance broker right here in the state of Nevada and also in California.

Donald Marquez
0:01:13
California offer auto insurance homeowners. Yes and life insurance boat and Motorcycle insurance if you have a boat or motorcycle, you know People like to get on the lake when it's cool and they ride their motorcycles this time of the year So this time of year is riding season and boating season for a lot of people some people like in the summer Some people like it in the cooler months to ride their motorcycle and get on their boat. So let's let's compare rates let's see if we can save you money on your recreational vehicles and let's look at your auto insurance you know I get a lot

Donald Marquez
0:01:46
of complaints about the auto insurance rates here in southern Nevada you know a lot of people get shocked when they move here in Nevada and they said oh I thought the rates were going to be a lot lower here in southern Nevada than I was you know coming from whatever town you came from but you know that's this is our something our auto insurance rates they're a little expensive here in the state of Nevada but we try to do our best at your insurance connection to find you lower insurance car rates but

Donald Marquez
0:02:13
we don't want to compromise on the coverages the coverages are very important you realize how discount coverages will treat you when you are in an auto accident and you need you know you need to go to the hospital. You need medical attention. You have bodily injuries. And to come find out that cut rate policy you purchased with the low, low premiums and

Donald Marquez
0:02:38
the low, low coverages, it's just not going to cover some of these injuries that you may sustain. And the policy is only going to pay for the policy limits. So let's get that straight. The policy limits on auto insurance policy is only gonna pay the policy limits.

Donald Marquez
0:02:56
So if you bought the minimum state requirement, which is $25,000 per person, $50,000 each accident, $20,000 property damage, that is it. Now, if you get sued for the balance, that could be an option if, you know, the people that you hit are injured enough,

Donald Marquez
0:03:13
they wanna pursue you in the court of law but a lot of times it doesn't happen but you never know. I mean you never ever know but if you're driving around with low cut insurance you know with the low state limits of liability you know you are putting yourself at risk especially if you're a homeowner or you own a business you know you are putting yourself at risk. If you drive rideshare, I can't state this enough, you need the endorsement on your rideshare auto policy. So your auto policy that you have, you don't have to purchase a

Donald Marquez
0:03:48
commercial policy, but if you are ridesharing, in other words, you're driving passengers for a fee around town, you do need the endorsement on your auto insurance policy. A lot of companies want to add the endorsement. Some will. The one that I represent will add the ride-share endorsement on your auto insurance policy. Now keep in mind you are a business owner. When you're a ride-share you're 1099. That means that everything you do you're gonna write off. Your gasoline, your mileage, well your mileage, your meals, your maintenance on your vehicle.

Donald Marquez
0:04:29
It is your business. This is what you do. So why would you want to carry the minimums on your business? Now just think about it. If you were getting into a ride share and you ask the driver, are you carrying the minimums on your car insurance or are you carrying the higher limits of liability?

Donald Marquez
0:04:50
Oh, I'm carrying the lower limits of liability. I carry the lowest cost insurance possible. You probably want to get out of that ride share. You probably say, you know, I'll take the bus or something. You know, I'll call me a taxi. But this is the risk you get yourself involved with

Donald Marquez
0:05:08
if you have a ride share person with the minimum coverages or no endorsement on the policy. You'll put yourself at a little bit of a risk. Now the ride share companies will cover the passengers to a certain dollar amount but I just want to make sure I'm covered all the way around. Especially if you are a driver, you are running a business, keep that in mind. I can help you with the endorsement on your auto insurance policy. 702-236-2624

7 0 2 2 3 6 26 24 my name is Don Marquez this is your insurance connection located right on the corner in the heart of a beautiful city Las Vegas Nevada on the corner of Rancho and Sahara located in the US Bank Center a floor I work by appointment my business hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and there are some Saturdays I will work. Not a holiday weekend but there are some Saturdays because I know some of you work nine to five and you can't get in during a weekday

Donald Marquez
0:06:13
or if you can it's gonna be very late. I usually get out of there by you know four four thirty five o'clock. You know traffic. I live in Green Valley and I'm leaving Saharan Rancho. That traffic it is what it is now you know I appreciate our traffic because I've been in California traffic Southern California traffic and there's no comparison I traffic probably last seven minutes maybe you know and then you you can drive but in California knows it's gonna be about 70 minutes

Donald Marquez
0:06:44
worth of traffic no matter where you go how you get there so you know I've learned to appreciate our small traffic here in Vegas. It's not you know it gets a little congested a little bit. Now it's always around the Tropicana, around the pyramid at the Lexo. I don't know why it just clogs up right there. Then it just opens up. It just opens up. But you know it is that's one of the things that happens in

Donald Marquez
0:07:06
Vegas. Even with our new roads. We just continue to drive. Just go. There's nothing there's nothing to slow down for. There's nothing to slow down for. I don't know, it is what it is. Getting into my favorite subject, which is life insurance. Now this is very important because I had a young lady

Donald Marquez
0:07:26
come in to see me and just, you know, to share her story. She brought her mother in and, you know, she was inquiring about her mother's policy. And she heard that I offer no obligation insurance reviews that I will review your current life insurance policy. Well, the lady had a policy she had for a very long time.

Donald Marquez
0:07:46
And which, you know, I'm finding out information myself on, you know, what happens when you take out a full surrender on a life insurance policy. Now she was getting up in age, you know, she was a senior citizen, but what she did she realized how much money she had in her policy And she had quite a bit She had a significant amount of money in her policy that she could surrender and have the money for herself for you know things she needed to do

Donald Marquez
0:08:16
But she so she said okay on this policy a half a long time. I will do a full surrender. I'll call the company And we found out all the details. What is the maturity date? What is the cash value of the policy? What is the surrender value of the policy? What is the face amount of the policy?

Donald Marquez
0:08:36
You know, things like that. If there's any loans against the policy. So you know, this is important information because sometimes, you know, people don't look at that yearly statement that comes in the mail once a year about your life insurance policy. It tells you how much interest you have on your policy,

Donald Marquez
0:08:54
how much you paid into it. It's called a 1099-R form. It's a statement that shows you how much you paid in your policy, what is the cash assets in it, and what is your equity.

Donald Marquez
0:09:05
This is important information. This is valuable information because it tells you exactly how much your policy is earning if in fact you have a policy that earns a cash asset. Now term does, and many times I've said on this show, term does not accumulate any cash

Donald Marquez
0:09:22
value at all. But it is a policy you can advance if you have a terminal illness and you have less than 12 months to live. Now if you have a terminal illness, you can take an advance on all policies, especially term you want to take advantage of that to take care of your final expenses if you have less than 12 months to live or if you have a terminal illness. Now

Donald Marquez
0:09:44
sometimes people with terminal illnesses they cash out their life insurance policies and they live over the over a year and that's okay that's your money you can do whatever you want with it. But you know getting back to the story she she said okay I'm gonna take I'm gonna surrender my policy but what I'm gonna do I'm gonna take out another policy and that way it looks like a rollover so when she take out the cash value there could be some

Donald Marquez
0:10:08
tax consequences on that policy because what they're gonna do they're gonna tax you on the equity the government is gonna tax you on the equity on the policy but if you take out a brand new policy you cashed out one policy and you take out another policy that looks like a rollover so you won't have any or very little tax obligations. For more information, my name is Donald Marquez or you can call me Don Marquez. This is your insurance connection.

So if you get off the I-15 and you go let's say west on Sahara, I am one block the next street the tall brown building with US Bank on the top and I work by Business hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Donald Marquez
0:11:14
Closed on holidays and some Saturdays I will work. I'm off on the weekends. I don't work on Sundays. I'm at home watching football just like you. We're going to pray for our Raiders.

Donald Marquez
0:11:27
Oh my God, Raiders.

Donald Marquez
0:11:29
You know, the team is gone. There's just not a whole lot of talent left. But we're gonna, I guess, you know, I'm gonna be positive. We're gonna rebuild for next year. And I'm a true Raider fan, whether they win or lose. But you know, I'd like to see some wins here. But it's gonna be okay. It's gonna make a lot of, a lot of talent out there in these other teams. And you know, we lost some valuable players within the last couple of seasons. And we're gonna be okay. We're gonna be okay. Vegas is a great market.

Donald Marquez
0:12:03
Who doesn't want to live here and play football, right?

Donald Marquez
0:12:06
We have great weather.

Donald Marquez
0:12:07
We have the strip. We have the lake. I mean, we have so much to do. No snow, unless you want to go up to Mount Charleston. So we'll be just fine in the future. Not this season, but next season,

Donald Marquez
0:12:20
maybe next couple of seasons. Anyway, let's get down to it. Life insurance, life insurance, life insurance. We all will need a filing expense. You know, I talk to people that own funeral homes, or funeral mortuaries, whatever you wanna call them,

Donald Marquez
0:12:35
and having a conversation with them to find out exactly what is the average cost of a cremation with a service. And it is up to like $10,000. You know, I mean, it's getting up there. A service so a cremation with the service that means there's going to be a viewing and then after the ceremony then the then the remains are cremated

Donald Marquez
0:13:04
put in an urn to give to the family. That's very expensive. And these mortuaries, funeral homes, want all the money up front. All the money up front. Now just think about that. Now that's a cremation with a ceremony. What if you want to fall, you don't want to be cremated. You want to be placed in the ground. And most people that's more of a traditional burial. Or some people want to be in a mausoleum above ground and all that adds up to be more and more money.

Donald Marquez
0:13:43
Now, if you're a veteran, you could be buried out at the Boulder City Cemetery and your family would just pay the opening closing with your 1099 form. And you can even make arrangements today while you're still living to say,

Donald Marquez
0:13:56
okay, you know what? I wanna be buried in a Boulder City Cemetery. You can already get your plot already taken care of. It's a benefit as a veteran and your family only pays a small fee to open and close and it also includes a container which is an additional fee they add on because now the casket has to go into a concrete or nylon container or a vault or

Donald Marquez
0:14:20
whatever you want to call it. Vault container but the casket goes in there and the lid goes on top of the casket, seals it, then the dirt comes in and fills the hole. Or it's in a container or a vault, goes inside the mausoleum and is sealed with your information on there.

Donald Marquez
0:14:42
This is all extra money. And we're not talking about the headstone. Now as a veteran, you get the, only at the Boulder City Cemetery in Southern Nevada. You get the You get the plot the headstone

Donald Marquez
0:14:56
You get the you know, that's that's in the vault. That's a lot That's a huge saving probably about $8,000 worth saving maybe even a little bit more than that But it doesn't take care of the service now all you veterans out there You get a little confused because you come see me sometimes and you say well, you know, I'm a veteran. Well, I'm a veteran too. And you know, VA gonna take care of me.

Donald Marquez
0:15:16
Well, no, not necessarily veterans. Not necessarily. If you don't have any life insurance with the VA, they only take care of the plot. That's it. Now, you can use the plot for earn,

Donald Marquez
0:15:31
or you can use the plot to stack you and your spouse on top of each other, or, you know, so, or maybe there's some situations that may be even side-by-side Just it really depends But you know, you would have to contact Boulder City Cemetery to go over the details

Donald Marquez
0:15:46
We'll see if we can get those folks on the show one day so they can you know, tell us how veterans benefits work Within the Boulder City Cemetery. There will be news we can all use and get more detailed information. Well, I'll look into that And see if we can get someone from the Boulder City Cemetery there to give us some valuable information To help out our veterans as a veteran You know, you have a lot of benefits and use those benefits when I go when I go to restaurants or department store department stores

Donald Marquez
0:16:18
I say hey, do you take veterans discounts and let them say? Oh, yeah, we'll give you up to 10% and you know I was looking at a barbecue grill just the other day and I just happened to ask I said is there a discount on this barbecue grill? They said oh, yeah, we'll give you 10% I'm like, oh, okay As a veteran, I think I think I make more money now in Discount than I did when I was in the military full-time. I

Donald Marquez
0:16:42
Was making no money And I was working on sophisticated aircraft. You know, KC-135 tankers, B-52 bombers, you know, just, oh my goodness. Was KC-135, that's an airplane that flies in the sky and the other airplane comes underneath and it refuels. So it refuels the other jets and they take off.

Donald Marquez
0:17:09
But yeah, I worked on that. And I didn't make any money. I made so little money by the time I paid my car payment my car insurance That was I was pretty much broke after that I Was definitely living for a little wages paycheck to paycheck, but fortunately I've been I'm being a veteran or Full-time military, you know my housing my food was taken care of and that was it

Donald Marquez
0:17:29
But but today it's a different story We're taking care of veterans and you know a lot of benefits out there for veterans. Any homeless veterans out there, there's a lot of benefits for homeless veterans to find your home and just check with the VA. I go to the VA now more than ever to get medical attention, my medications. As a veteran, you can do the same thing.

Donald Marquez
0:17:57
It's a lot of help out there for you, even if you have mental illness. It's a lot of help out there for you. If you have a family member that needs veterans assistance, take them to the VA. The VA is there to help them out. My name is Don Marquez. This is news you can use.

Donald Marquez
0:18:11
I'm a licensed insurance broker in the state of Nevada and California offering life insurance, home, auto, and renters insurance, boat and motorcycle insurance. Final expense. We all will have a final expense. Just no way around it. You know, I received some information in the mail about a life insurance policy up to $50,000 in coverage, no medical exam, but here are some of

Donald Marquez
0:18:35
the snapshot questions that I had to circle. In the past five years, have your driver's license been suspended or revoked or been convicted of a felony? Now, if you answer yes to that question, they will deny you the life insurance. Again in the past five years, has the proposed insurance had his or her driver's license suspended, revoked, or been convicted of any felony, or is the proposed insurer currently incarcerated within the last five years? Now if you answer yes to that, your policy is going to be denied.

Donald Marquez
0:19:15
Or does the proposed insurer have any chronic illness or condition which requires periodic medical care or may require future surgery? Now that means if you have a chronic illness and you need surgery and you answer yes to that, there could be reason to deny you for life insurance. And here's another one. Cancer, if you have a disease of the heart,

Donald Marquez
0:19:40
kidney disease, a brain or liver disease, diabetes, you could be denied for the life insurance policy or you get a smaller offer for the life insurance. It is always better not to purchase these policies through the mail. When you purchase a policy through the mail,

Donald Marquez
0:19:58
of course you have to answer the questions. They say, you know, all is a guaranteed acceptance on some policies. Not all policies are guaranteed acceptance. They went in the way when you fill this out, you know, you send it in, they review it,

Donald Marquez
0:20:16
the underwriting team reviews it, and they may say, well, you don't qualify for this amount, but we'll give you a reduced amount, something that, you know, then you have to wait two or three years before the actual policy is the full face amount of the policy is in effect. That happens all the time. People realize okay I need life insurance this all this came in the mail

Donald Marquez
0:20:40
this looks pretty good here from one of the well-known companies or maybe one of my department stores or my credit union let me fill it out, send it in, and I have life insurance. And they come back with an offer with a lot less than you want it, but you take it anyway. Come to find out, it's accidental only. Yeah, accidental only.

Donald Marquez
0:21:02
I was talking to a gentleman that owns a funeral home, Andre's funeral home, and he told me, Andre told me, he's been in the business since I've known this gentleman for over 30 plus years. He told me that 90% of the people that come into the funeral home family members do not have any form to pay for the funeral. In other words, they don't have a life insurance policy. 90% people do not have life insurance.

Donald Marquez
0:21:26
But you know that with that 90% I guarantee you people have cars they have car insurance they have probably even multiple cars they have a home or they rent or you know they go out they have a good time you know you can set aside a little money every month to put that away to say this is my life insurance policy this is what it's for because you know I'm not gonna be here forever and stop saying if something happens to me I don't like that.

Donald Marquez
0:22:03
If something happens to me, what does that mean? I mean, you're going to be around forever? No, you're not. So stop saying, if something happens to me. You need to say, when something happens to me, this is what I need you to do.

Donald Marquez
0:22:17
I have a list of details, bullets where you can just go down the list. This is where my life insurance policy is. This is my banking information with the routing number, account numbers. This is my auto insurance loan. This is my insurance, my car insurance. You just have a list with

Donald Marquez
0:22:36
everything and everything put together, a nice package so your family members don't go in your house and tear up your house looking for valuable information that they need to take care of your final expense. In other words, they're looking for that life insurance policy. And then, oh, we know he got a policy somewhere. And he drove nice cars, you know, he used to go out all the time, dinner, dinner dates, you know, they used to have fun.

Donald Marquez
0:23:02
And no life insurance? That doesn't even add up. That doesn't make any sense. You're driving around on a brand new car or, you know, something that's fairly new and you don't have any life insurance. And these car payments today, wow, that's a lot of money

Donald Marquez
0:23:17
what they're paying on cars today. And you know, think about it. If you're paying $600 to $700 a month on a car, you know, you can afford life insurance. Just don't get a car that's $600 to $700 a month, find you something that's maybe $300 or $400 a month,

Donald Marquez
0:23:30
and you know, take $100 and $150 a month and buy a life insurance policy with it. You know, then you take care of two things. You get your car and you get your life insurance You are more valuable than that car and your family members will need that money One day and it's going to happen to all of us listening to this program and there's people that's not listening to this program

Donald Marquez
0:23:52
everyone is going to have a final expense a final expense to take care of those very expensive funeral bills and the people that own the funeral, the mortuaries and the funeral homes, they tell me their prices increase every six months. Every six months. I'll find a life insurance policy that will fit in your budget. We can create a payment method, a monthly draft that comes directly out of your checking

Donald Marquez
0:24:20
account. You can select the due date between the first and the 28th of each month. And if you have children that are 17 years or younger, we can add on a child rider on your policy. In other words, you have a policy, they're attached to your policy as a rider,

Donald Marquez
0:24:37
they're insured until age 25, and once they turn 25, then they'll spin off on their own life insurance policy. The life insurance company will offer them a policy. Our rates and benefits are locked in for the life of the policy.

Donald Marquez
0:24:52
There's no health examination to apply, just a few health questions. Now I do have policies that will ask health questions and there is a physical. Now this one there is a minimum of 12 health questions. There's no physical up to $35,000 in whole life benefits. Whole life insurance does have a cash value asset. It does accumulate as you make in your premium payments or portion of those premium payments go towards your cash value
