Good morning. This is Don Marquez with your insurance connection. Happy Sunday morning. It is eight o'clock in the morning. Wow. I know so early, get your coffee or your favorite beverage. And let's talk about insurance. Let's get down right to it. My name is Don Marquez, this is your insurance connection. And we broadcast right here at KTNV 91.5. Jazz and more Sunday mornings from 8am to 830. What I do, I'm an insurance professional and I talk about insurance. I come on the air to educate you about insurance so you can get a better understanding about what you pay for every single month for your insurance. So your auto your home, your life insurance, a boat motorcycle insurance, what coverages Do you have. And you know, you should know what coverages you have. Review your coverages on your policies no matter what policy it is and don't take for granted, because you're with a well known insurance company. And I represent well known insurance companies as well. But even the well known insurance companies, you know, they have a way to reduce your costs for insurance by reducing coverages. Let's take for an example. Last week, I wrote a gentleman here at the radio program. And I wrote him his homeowners insurance. I looked at his homeowners insurance policy, and it was greatly under insured by $135,000. I could not understand how can someone write this policy. For him. He's only had a home for two years and have an underinsured $135,000. The problem is people don't really look at the declaration page when you receive the auto policy a homeowner's or even a renters policy, boat motorcycle all of them add that will be called declaration pages. Now the direct declaration page is a page to review your current coverages. The declaration page shows you when your renewal comes what your renewal premium is going to be. And also your coverages on your auto insurance, for instance, your bodily injury your uninsured motorist, your comprehensive your collision, your rental car, your labor, you know, your rosov of roadside service, towing and labor for your homeowners is going to be your dwelling, other structures, your deductible, your liability, all that is in your declaration page once you receive it, when your policy renews. Now if you're on automatic renewal, that means insurance companies will automatically take the money from your renewal policy because they have your card own information or they have your checking account information on record to automatically pull those funds. However, if you mean Direct Bill, let's let's talk about for your auto insurance. If you pay your auto insurance in full for the full 12 months upfront, then you're going to save money. Now when I write auto insurance policies, I tried to encourage my my clients to pay the policy in full for the full year. It is a substantial savings. Now when you sell it say on television, you can save up to $700 by changing over to this company and the average saving is XYZ you know, 20 minutes and 15 minutes to give you save you. You know those are national statistics. But they don't mean anything because we don't know what type of coverage they're talking about. We don't know the coverages they're just saying we're gonna save you money. They don't talk about, you know what coverages they don't. They just said we're gonna save you money, because we've been programmed on especially on auto insurance that we need to save money. But what is important to me that's important also to the habit will fit within your budget, but also to make sure you are properly insured. Because when something happens, you know, you want to make sure you have coverage. Oh, I wasn't covered for that. I thought I have full coverage on auto insurance. No, you don't have uninsured motorist. That's one of the coverages that's eliminated quite frequently. Also medical. If you don't have health insurance, they'll they'll take out medical that reduces your cost of auto insurance but it leaves you uncovered. You don't have full coverage. Now you you probably if you make an a payment on the vehicle or you own it in a you know fairly new car, you will have collision and comprehensive or they'll say other than collision which is comprehensive Now under your deductibles, I've seen people carry $1,000 deductibles on comprehensive doesn't make any sense to me. And why is that because if you need to replace a windshield, if you don't have glass protection on your auto insurance policy, you You will pay for that windshield. So now if that windshield was $700, your insurances went up $700 On your comprehensive, you can carry a low deductible like $100, even $50. Because the difference between $100 on a comprehensive auto insurance policy and $1,000 is not a lot. It's not a lot, maybe a couple gallons worth of gas, and the gas prices are today for the full year, we're talking about for the full year, it's not worth it, it's not even worth it. It's probably less than that, really. But when you do the comparison, but people say I want $1,000 on collision and comprehensive thinking they're saving money, but it's gonna cost you money in the long run, if in fact, you need to replace your windshield. Those windshields today on vehicles anywhere anywhere from four to $700, maybe even more, depending on the luxury vehicle that you drive. Another thing too, is collision. Now you can carry $1,000 deductible on collision, but you have to be smart about it when your cars in the car accident. You know, you want to be able to take a cash settlement to get your auto repaired. I talk about this on the on the show weekly. Because you know people get in car accidents all the time. And the first thing they want to do is get an attorney which you have every right to do so you have representation and insurance companies also have representation. But you know, they want to make sure that the the claim is settled in a timely manner. But when you do get an attorney, it delays the process. It just does. I know everybody everybody's backed up, you know, because of the virus that has slowed the process down. And some of the claims are starting to you know, whether things are opening up. So some of the claims now is starting to speed up and close out. If you've been you know, dragged with a claim for quite some time. And you know, you want to why you claim hasn't been closed? Well, this is one of the reasons why because of the virus. And you know, and some of these insurance companies are short staffed, because people have found other careers or working from home. So just be patient with the insurance companies, auto insurance companies, they will settle your claim within a timely manner. But if you don't have an attorney, sometimes you could do it a lot quicker. That's fact I've done it multiple times. Been in car accidents, people hit me. And I've went to the insurance companies direct and I settled my claim without an attorney. Now you have every right to get an attorney I'm saying not to get one, but it has a tendency to slow the process down. My name is Donald Marquez, my contact number is 702-236-2624 702-236-2624. My Location is on the corner of Sahara and Rancho in the US Bank Center, located on the eighth floor at work by appointment again 702 to three 626 24 Look at your declaration page. When the policy comes in the mail for renewal, look at your declaration page. I know you focus in on the price. Look at your coverages. Now, if you've added an additional vehicle on your policy, sometimes that gives you a discount because now you have the multicar discount, or if you're married, make sure you and your wife are on the policy together. Now, when you are married, keep this in mind. Both you want to be the both the named insured on the auto insurance policy. Also the homeowners insurance policy to yield only both the named insured use the on a homeowner's insurance policy is automatically the husband and wife are the named insured. Now by being the named insured means you're the owner of the policy you can call in and make any changes necessary. on auto insurance policy, both of your names will appear on auto ID card. But if you are driver on an auto insurance policy, your name more than likely will not show up on the ID card. That could be a problem with the DMV. I've seen when you know it's the household you have three drivers, four drivers in a household mother and father. And then you have you know the two children are the young college students on auto policy but only mom and dad name appear on the ID cards. Now there are certain circumstances you can contact the auto insurance company and add the names of the other drivers on the ID card. Now but they're not listed as will be called named insurance, they just add additional drivers. Now some companies will do it some of them won't, because they're not the named insured. Now if you mom and dad own the policy, I mean own the policy and also own the vehicles. You know more than likely their names will not appear on the ID cards and sometimes they make certain circumstances they'll have mom and dad or mom and the child underneath my Um name, or the dad. Underneath dad's name, let's say there's three cars in the household and a couple of drivers other other than mom and dad driver, two children sharing a car, you know, they can make arrangements, you don't have to contact your auto insurance company. Or if you'd like to sit down with me to have an insurance review. This is what we do with insurance reviews, we review all your insurance, we take it page by page, I read the contract people don't want to read. I do I look it over to make sure you're you are covered. You are covered. Because you can think, you know, this doesn't apply to you. I don't get in car accident. I don't know what when people say I don't get car accidents, I don't have car accidents. What makes you different. No one gets up in the morning to say, You know what, I want to have a car accident today, I'm going to have a car accident today. No one gets up and think that it just happens. That's why we look both ways. When we're going to intersection. You know, you have to always and you have an SUV is that divided between the you know, the door, the driver's door, and then you have the passenger door. And this like a I don't know what you call a bulkhead or that that piece of metal in between the doors, it separates the doors, you have to look to your left, and make sure there's no other vehicles on the left hand side of you. Now when you're driving an SUV that blocks your vision, I've have an M drive, I drive it yes SUV, in an S block my vision. Now you cannot always depend on the mirrors. When you're switching lane. Sometimes you know what the newer model cars, they'll let you know if there's a car on the side of you their beep or their flash in the mirrors. So you can see you can see cars that's on the right side of you on on the left side of you. Or if you're too close, it'll, it'll sound off the beat or alarm to let you know you're following too close. Now, when you're driving your vehicle, please do not text and drive. More car accidents are caused by people texting and driving. Especially when you you know you're on the expressway, I can and I don't understand it. I see people in the eye 15 to 1595. And they're texting and driving 7080 miles an hour and they're texting is that that really that important? to text someone while you're driving? Come on, let's stop that. Because that causes really bad car accidents. It really does. You know, if you want to keep your car insurance rates in check, when you have an add fall car accident, it could cause your rate to go up. Now know on some of these commercials it said, Well, you know, Accident Forgiveness, and Accident Forgiveness is forgiven if there's a certain dollar amount, you know, they'll forgive the accident if not over a certain dollar amount. In other words, that's okay, if you have a claim, and it's under $1,000 and no bodily injury, then you're forgiven, we're not going to charge you as an at fault accident. However, you could lose your accident free discount, and your rate could go up slightly. But it's not like an at fault accident with bodily injury. Now that is going to cause your insurance rates to really go up. Now when that happens. You know, people ask me, you know why I was in a car accident? You know, I need to shop for other insurance. I say is your claim still open? Yes. Oh, yes, it is. And maybe it's advantageous for you to stay down to your claims closed out. It really it may be because once you have the car accident and let's say six months later your car insurance is going to renew that claim could be still open while you when you're while your policy is renewing. So then they're going to auto insurance carriers are not going to charge you until your claim is closed now your rates may go up slightly. But once your claim is closed, that's when you got to see the real rate and sometimes it takes a couple of years for that claim to close. Now the reason why I like to write yearly policies because it gives you a little bit more time and and also the likes to rhenium for the term 702-236-2624 is my contact phone number 702-236-2624 located on the corner of Sahara and Rancho in the US Bank building. My name is Donnell Marquez, if you just tuning in for the very first time, I'm an insurance broker. I Robin right insurance since 1996. When I took my state exam, and I've been here in my hometown, Las Vegas, Nevada. You know, and just offering insurance every day since 96 to my clients, and I'm an old school insurance agent. I am I wear suits. My building is a wonderful building. I love going into my building because it allows me to control my time. Now when I was when I had an agency with Allstate Insurance company back in the 90s I was there every single day. And you know my customers are in and out in and I was busy all the time. I really couldn't I take my time with the customers, like I have today. Now, I usually give about an hour and a half of my time up to two hours, no obligation, whether you purchase the policy or not if you purchase a policy from me, and we offer home auto, life insurance, boat, and motorcycle insurance, the insurance companies pay me. So you don't have to worry about a broker fee. I don't charge a broker fee. Now people have asked me, Is it more money to use an insurance agent? Or can I just go online to do it myself. And I want you to go online and do it yourself for all your insurance products. You're doing everything self service, you may or may not under fully understand the coverages and how they work when it comes to paying claims. Or if you don't have enough insurance, especially on auto insurance, bodily injury, the minimum stay required for the state of Nevada, it went up to now is $25,000 per person $50,000 Each accident with $20,000 property damage, let me break that down tell you exactly what that means. That means up to $25,000. Each person for medical that you injured in a car accident doesn't cover you. It covers your liability for people that you injure and your auto accident. Now 50,000 Each accident, that's the maximum insurance company's gonna pay out for that accident. Now let's go to the uninsured most uninsured motorist portion of the policy on your auto insurance 25,000 per person 50,000 Each accident that is the minimum let me say that slowly again. 25,000 Each person 50,000 Each accident for uninsured and underinsured motorist. It protects you and the passengers in the vehicle if someone hits your vehicle without enough insurance to cover you and the passengers bodily injury, what if they have no insurance at all? You'll be surprised you know what, it's about 30% of the people driving around in Las Vegas, Nevada, in Southern Nevada without car insurance. I don't know what what they spend the money on. I don't know what they spend the money on, but they are not buying car insurance. 30% That's a big number. That's one of the reasons why rates are kind of high in Vegas 30% of the people driving around with no car insurance, but when they hit you, and they have no car insurance or not enough car insurance, this is when you use a bodily injury protection now, if you have health insurance that could help you depending on you know, your guidelines with your health insurance. It could help you to pay for some of this but think about it $25,000 In the hospital is not a lot of money these days. $25,000 And you have to have surgery definitely is not enough money. Don't always think you know car accidents a minor fender benders, there have been fatalities, families have been entire families have been lost as a result of car accidents. So you know, if a slight fender bender happens, you know, and they're soft tissue injuries, but you know, in car accidents, it comes in there's a lot of moving parts when it comes to car accidents, and the medical bills get very expensive right away. Now, of course you know there there are law firms out there just want to settle with you really quick, because you have them you have a small bodily injury coverage is your your your bodily injury has a small limit of liability. your uninsured motorist has a you know a small limit of liability. They want to settle with you quick now if your injuries are over and above these policy limits, you know, then you have to hopefully you have health insurance to cover some of these bodily injuries that you have. But what I do when I have a review, I encourage you to increase your bodily injury, increase your uninsured motorist and lower your comprehensive deductible. And also review your collision deductible to make sure if you do have a roadside service with a motor company, you really don't need the Emergency Roadside Service covered you really don't I mean, if you have a separate motor club, you know in there, there are plenty motor clubs out there. People have the motor club car for years for roadside service and you have your insurance company offer it and but you already have a motor club, you can keep that motor club that because they'll they'll come out and service your car now. I said this before my I'm gonna repeat myself on this on the show. If you have a car accident, and your car needs to be towed, contact your motor club, have them come out and pick up your car. It take it to wherever you want to take it. But do not let the police officers have your car towed. They're gonna send it to the impound. And that's going to be a daily fee and the impound and they really don't care how they handle your car is sometimes they cause more damage to your car than it was on original accident. So keep that in mind. If you have a car accident and you can contact your motor club company and tell them you're impeding traffic Tell him that Marquez and I'm at beating dragonfly traffic and they'll come out a lot faster. That's it oh well you know what we have a three hour wait but I'm impeding traffic I'm slowing. Oh, okay, we'll get a truck out to you right away. Now with your motor club, you can request a flatbed. Now they sometimes they you know, they may or may not charge an additional fee for the flatbed. But sometimes the flatbed takes a little longer to get to you, you know, but if you have a low profile vehicle, in other words, you have a sports car, low profile, the flatbed is the way to go. Especially if you have Porsches, corvettes, those type of vehicles, those low, low rider types, that kind of loaded the ground, but you need a you need a flatbed to put that vehicle on, on a tow truck. And you're gonna have it towed anywhere to your house if you want to, or to the to the dealership. Now let them take a look at it. And on the next day or, or doing that day, you can contact the dealership, let them know your vehicle is coming there. And they can start getting it repaired for you. Right away, you want to file that claim immediately. Get on the phone and file your claim and always get checked out to make sure you okay, that's really important, you know, because it wants a car hit you that's a moving vehicle with a lot of weight behind it. And it pushes you hyperextend you and it could cause internal and internal damages to you that you're not even aware of for the next three days. Usually the third day is when you start filling in aches and pains. You know, always get checked out my number is 702-236-2624 702-236-2624. At your insurance connection we offer home and auto insurance will combine the home and auto together to give you the bundle discount, it reduced the cost of auto insurance and also reduce the cost of your homeowners insurance policy. Now with a homeowner's insurance policy. As I said earlier, I wrote a gentleman his his homeowners insurance was $135,000 under insured, it gave him a lower rate. But if he had a total loss, or even a partial loss, he may not have enough money on his homeowners insurance policy to cover the losses to cover the losses. Now, the way we evaluate homeowners insurance is we take the square footage, we times it by a certain number, depending on the home with a semi custom, you know, build was great was a track home or you know, manufactured home. So there's different levels of evaluating how much it costs to repair or replace your home. The cost of labor and pins on all your upgrades to as well. But let's say you do have a homeowner's insurance policy and you have about 1800 square feet, you're probably going to need about $350,000 worth dwelling a map around three and a $50,000 dwelling amount to cover any type of losses that you may have. That's very important because won a loss occurs. You know people quickly find out they don't have certain coverages. One of the certain coverages is are eliminated in it right here in Southern Nevada is a water loss coverage. A water loss coverage means that is excluded. On some of these companies. Some of the contracts that I read, I do include water loss in the homeowners insurance policies that I write, because of their hot water heater breaks and it breaks at the bottom water is everywhere. You could you could have mold, mildew, fungi, you know all you need, you know your sheetrock is soaked up, it cause water damages. Now some of these water heaters I've seen inside the home, especially with older condos, the water heater breaks, it just makes a mess everywhere. I've never could understand how the builders inspectors allow you to put a water heater inside the home because you have natural gas there. And it's up in a condo down the hallway in a closet don't make sense. Now, they should be all on the outside of the patio, you know free away from any type of children that can you know, go in and you know put play with play with the flame underneath a hot water heater. I've seen it many times fires are started because children you know they go on to where the water heater is and they play and you know they play with the fire and need the water heat and they start to fire happens it happens more frequently than you would imagine. Here's another one the water losses is caused by in house. Turn your washing machine off when you finish washing clothes. Turn your washing machine off when you finish washing clothes because the hoses that's connected to the washing machine with the lines open has pressure on them and the pressure goes up and down up and down depending on the pressure. Now eventually would that that pipe flow thing is going to break. When you finish washing all your clothes, turn the water line off. And then next week, well, whenever you need to wash your clothes, turn on one law, water lines back on to wash the clothes and turn them off when you're done, when you turn the water line off, that relieves the pressure from those rubber water hoses, because they will eventually break. You know what, before I got into the insurance business, and it happened to me twice, when I bought my very first home,

Unknown Speaker 25:28
I came downstairs and I had about a four inch flood in my family room, it was bad. And I didn't hear it until I was coming down the steps and I heard, you know, a water rushing sound. And, you know, I had about four inches of water had to call into work. And let them know that I have a flood in my house. I couldn't make it. And you know, but this is what happens. Fortunately, you know, we had the policy again, I was not any insurance business at the time, that was back in the 80s. But you know, the insurance company did take care of the flood, but I immediately you know, try to secure the loss, try to drain much as that water out as I could. And when I got a shot shot back to suck it all out. And that's what you need to do to once you have a loss, you need to secure the loss so it won't prevent other losses. And also, when you do have a water loss or a leak in your ceiling, you want to contact the insurance companies immediately. I've seen multiple times where the insurance companies will say you know what, this is a pre existing condition. And we're not covering the losses. My name is Don Marquez, this is your insurance connection. 702-236-2624 is my contact number 702-236-2624. At your insurance connection, we offer life insurance as well. Life insurance, everyone needs life insurance. You do. And you know, I mean, it's the cost is going up for everything. And also the funeral costs are going up as well. On the average cost about $15,000 to bury a loved one you can not afford not to have life insurance. And now I know people sometimes they say I have life insurance on my job. I know very few people that have used the life insurance on their job to bury a loved one. I can't think of any really. I can't think of any and I've been around a long time too. But I don't know many people that have used that life insurance job policy, to to bury a loved one and to put money into family saying once that loved one that's gone. Usually what happens is, you know people they'll retire, they'll lose benefits, or, you know, leave the job. And those benefits go away. That's what usually happens. You can get an individual life insurance policy we offer whole life term and universal life 702-236-2624 702-236-2624 My name is Donald Marquez, my location is on a corner of Sahara and Rancho in the US Bank Center.
