He came to my office and he was excited to hear what you have to say what I had to say about you. And now if he's listening to the program today, you can get the words it's coming out of your mouth tangled up a little bit too, too, too much excitement. But today, you know, I want you to introduce yourself to our listening community. And we're gonna get to into the insurance part as we always do, but you know, give a give everyone a heads up what you're doing and the services that you provide with everything legal. Well,

Unknown Speaker 1:57
ladies and gentlemen, my name is Christine Barnard and I am the owner of a paralegal service called everything legal. You can pull us up on the website at www that everything hyphen legal.com, which will show all of our services. I am a mobile notary, I've been in the legal bill field for over 40 years in multiple types of law. So I I've got quite a bit of experience. If I can help you I probably know someone that can. I also do wills, medical and financial powers of attorneys. promissory notes done may have mentioned that a few times if you're going to loan somebody some money, you better get it in writing when you're going to get it returned, and also prepare corporations LLCs things of that nature. So if you have a small business, or home based business or hobby that you'd like to turn into a business, we can help you with everything to get that started, you

Unknown Speaker 3:09
know and the beauty of your business is that you are mobile. You can meet the clients at the office in my office located on the corner of Sahara Rancho in the US Bank Center, located on Eighth floor, her contact phone number is 702-857-4401. Again, Christine Bernards phone number is 702-857-4401. Christine, would you agree with your services that you provide definitely has helped me with my clients. Thank you so much for your service, I needed a paralegal to help me, you know, guiding my clients through the power of attorney process with the financial power of attorneys, when they have a loved ones that cannot speak for themselves, or if they have Alzheimer's or dementia. Or, you know, as I as my mother age in life, she wanted me to take care all Finally, I found a financial business. And I was able to take care of financial business with a power of attorney. It gave me authorization to sign for her guy with the POA I remember, I signed some documents for my mother. And, and you know, and she had to, I don't know, weeks later, I needed to sign an additional document that I didn't sign it. I told my mother go ahead and sign it. And he signed it the document, turned it in mailed it back into whatever he had to do at the time. But they contacted my mother and said that the signature doesn't match. I will sign it so much for my mother. And then when she eventually signed something for herself, you know, the you know, the company called her up and said that last signature doesn't match the rest of the signatures. And we had a we had a pretty good laugh out of it. But you know eventually you And I signed that document and send it in and they accepted it absolutely accepted it. So the power of attorney really does give you a lot of, you know, comfort knowing that you can take care of your failure family members business, with with authorization from them. And also give us a enlightenment lamp enlighten us on the medical power of attorney,

Unknown Speaker 5:21
the medical power of attorney is a document that you actually fill out that asks specific questions, there are five questions a couple of them may be Do Not Resuscitate. Or do I want to be intravenously fed? How long do I want to be kept on a machine? You get to chat make those answers or answer those questions. Right now, before the situation happens. I believe everyone should have a medical power of attorney. For instance, if you're in an accident, at any age, and you are not able to speak, this allows your family members or whoever you designate at this time to make to present this document what you would want. And

Unknown Speaker 6:07
that's a good point you made no matter what age you are when What about married couples, they should have power of attorney on each other.

Unknown Speaker 6:13
Right? Absolutely. I also suggest that these documents are provided to your health care provider. A lot of seniors have it posted on their front door in case something happens, the paramedic has to come in, they know what they want, whether they can touch that person or not. Or put them on a ventilator or do not DNR, do not resuscitate if they go flat. I

Unknown Speaker 6:38
understand I understand that, you know, and seniors, we need time to time, we need someone to take care of financial and also a medical, you know, every situation is different. You know, that it may be a person that, you know, I don't have a family and my my dad years ago, you know, I don't have any children? And how does that person get someone to take care of their financial? Well,

Unknown Speaker 7:02
it could be you designate on either aren't either or both of those documents, you designate someone, a regular person. And then you also provide an alternate in case something happens to that person. You're covered. I had someone this morning, contact me this said that her she has a grown son that has some disabilities. And she wanted to know if the financial power of attorney could help her, you know, handle his business and and I said absolutely. That's what you need, even though he is of age, but he's not cognizant to understand what's going

Unknown Speaker 7:39
on. Absolutely. Absolutely. And this is for everyone. You know, Christine Barnard, I we met, she came in my office to buy life insurance policy. Right? And I sold her life insurance customer. Yes, you are. Yes, you are. And we started talking. What type of work do you do? And she said, Well, I'm a paralegal and I'm just getting my business started. And I said, Well, you know, I've been, I need a paralegal to help me or with my life insurance customers. From time to time, you know, I have life insurance customers that that need assistance with family members that cannot speak for themselves. And some cases, family members want to purchase life insurance on a loved one that has Alzheimer's, or dementia, or organic brain syndrome. And they cannot speak for themselves. And as an insurance professional, that offers life insurance, I cannot go to that individual and offer them a policy they cannot speak in their behalf. And having being able to, you know, work together as long as we've worked together has been a great experience for me, I want to thank you for your for your support. And, you know, half of my difficult cases get resolved. And, and and when I come on the radio, and I tell you, it has been a blessing for me to work with Christine. You know, and if you've been in the car accident, we can help you with that. Because sometimes you know you you need an attorney, especially if you're going to try to claim uninsured and underinsured motorist protection, because you can't do it on your own. You do need an attorney for those coverages. If a person hits you without enough car insurance, on their car insurance or if they don't have any car insurance at all. You can utilize your unused uninsured and underinsured motors portion of your auto insurance policy. Now you would have to have the insurance. You know you would have and most of my clients, you know, do carry even if they carry a liability, no collision no comprehensive. I do put uninsured underinsured motorist protection on the policy. That's good. Because you never know. I would say over 30% of the people driving around in Las Vegas, Nevada does not have car insurance or enough current or enough car insurance. Definitely not enough car insurance. Yeah, our minimums just went up over about a little over a year and a half ago. We were at the bottom of 15,000 per person 30,000 Each at Today I say the bottom because you go to the doctor today, the hospital today $15,000 can be absorbed so quickly in your medical bill, and you don't have enough coverages to to to take care of your medicals. And with 30,000 each occurrence, I know the car insurance companies loved it, because that was a minimum zero paying out. But fortunately, the state legislature brought how to move it up to $25,000 per person 50,000 Each accident, that's better than it was but with inflation, you know, coming like it is today, you know, $25,000 with the car insurance is okay, but you should step it up. When people want to shop for car insurance. They want to shop for car insurance, I tell them increase your coverages, they'll go to 50,000 per person 100,000 Each accident last shop at that coverage rate versus the lower coverage rate. And I'm quite sure in your profession being an illegal business, you know, people get in the car accident, and they think they're gonna get rich, right? Everybody? Does it think they're gonna get rich, but the policies are only gonna pay out what your policy limits are. Yeah, so when they go to an attorney, and I know you can't speak on behalf of Attorney, but those policy limits mean a lot on your auto insurance.

Unknown Speaker 11:12
It's a limit as to what can be claimed. That's right. So

Unknown Speaker 11:16
if you if you're trying to file a claim on your your car insurance, and I know you hear these ads on television, and a lot of that is misleading. But in a car accident, what you purchase for the limits of liability is what usually is paid what is paid out, or sometimes a lot less, or to the maximum. Now, if it's someone hits you with higher limits of liability, you know, that person is protecting themselves. I've been in car accidents, where I had I carry higher limits of liability, you know, I have too much to lose, now carrying the state minimum. And people said, well, you know, I can't I can't afford the care of those higher limits of liability. But if you start off, before you start shopping, if you bump your your your liability rates up, you'll be surprised how you will save money, or you could be paying the exact amount you're paying now, with the higher limits of liability only if you bump up before you start shopping.

Unknown Speaker 12:12
And it's really important for those who have assets to protect themselves. Yes, that's really important to have the higher limits of liability. Yes,

Unknown Speaker 12:21
it is. I've talked to people business owners, yes, I own the business with minimum state requirements. I've talked to people, you'd be surprised, you know, even even professional people with lower limits of liability. And what after having a conversation with them on the auto insurance, you know, I encourage them to increase those limits of liability, just in case something happened. If you're a homeowner, you shouldn't have higher limits of liability. And especially if you have young drivers driving just a couple of days ago, my cousin was hit by a 19 year old. Now the 19 year old calls her the next day to say you know what, I have a friend that can repair your vehicle. And I told her no, no, no, don't do that. Do not if somebody hits you in a bit a car accident. And it's clearly their fault. You what you need to do is take all their information, take a picture of all the information, their driver's license, and when I say their information, I mean their ID card, front and back. And also their driver's license. Yes, take a picture of a driver's license file a claim on their path and the license plate if you're able to Yes, and take the picture of the two cars meeting, yes, because the police officers are not coming out if there's no injury, you know, there's times where you can drive away, even with damage to your vehicle, you can drive away, now you need an attorney. And this is what Christine Barnard comes into. They helps me with my clients that are in car accidents, and now the insurance companies will work with you. However, if you need additional professional help, once you just elaborate on the process, how that works when a person calls, you know calls you for an attorney, how does that work?

Unknown Speaker 13:54
Well, I listen to the situation I listen to the story because I try to match the situation with the correct attorney that I've worked with in the in the past because I would rather our customer, our listeners work with someone who we trust and some have different needs than the other. So I listen to this story. I take a document a statement basically from them. And then I call a couple of companies, a couple of attorneys and discuss it with them and put the customer in touch with the attorney. And

Unknown Speaker 14:28
every situation is different. It could be a passenger or private passenger vehicle involved with a car accident, or it can be a commercial vehicle or getting involved with the cracks and I had for a good friend of mine. He was involved in a semi truck rear ended him and his small lightweight pickup truck totaled a pickup truck. I said didn't you go get checked out? Did you go to the doctor gets hurt? He said I'm okay. But he procrastinated about maybe six months, but you know then he's the one to file a claim. The longer you take The weekend your case I will absolutely

Unknown Speaker 15:01
you need to, even if you're not going to pursue it, you need to file it immediately. Yeah. And you can decide later on if you want, you know what your injuries are. Because you don't really know what your injuries are immediately after having an accident. It takes sometimes days and weeks for you to feel what's wrong,

Unknown Speaker 15:20
while your body is off, you know, you hyperextend your lower back, I've been in car accidents, the last car accident I was in it affected my lower back. And that was over six years ago. And I still feel the pain from that accident six over six years ago, as we age and we don't exercise regularly, I don't know should I go up down the stairs in my house. But that's not enough exercise. But you know, is exercises work and work in a you know, a full shift at my office and talking to my clients, I want to go home and relax. I want to go home or I don't want to get on a treadmill soon as I get home. But you know, it's good is good medicine to exercise. It is really good medicine to exercise to walk. However, you know, we don't routinely do this as as people. But when you are in a car accident, you know you have a small window to read what you should report the accident to the to the proper insurance company. And I tell I'm gonna tell you if you're listening to this program, my name is Don Marquez, this is your insurance connection. And I'm here with Christine Banagher. And we're talking about you know, liability and a car accident. And we're gonna talk about other issues too, as well. But it just came to mind because I have a recent I had a car accident six years ago, I was involved in a car accident about a year ago. So I have two car accidents within six years. And it's the liability portion of the car accident once you realize, you know, you don't have enough liability car insurance. And people always concerned about the rates and southern event. I understand that. But it's better to have it and not need it. And the needed to not have it and Richard Pryor said that years ago is better the habit than that needed than to need it and that habit. Because if you're involved in a car accident, you're gonna find out quickly, that cut rate insurance that you're paying for is not going to be there for you. Yeah, you're

Unknown Speaker 17:09
gonna get cut rate treatment. Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 17:11
you're gonna get cut rate trim. Now I represent premium companies, and in you know, with the liability, and the thing is when when I ask people what is your car insurance coverages? They tell me, Oh, I'm full. I'm full coverage. That's not always the case. Oh, full coverage.

Unknown Speaker 17:26
They don't understand what full coverage really means. No, that's just whoever sold them. The policy is telling them they have like, Oh, you

Unknown Speaker 17:33
have full coverage. Now that covers your loan with comprehensive and collision. However, does it cover uninsured motorist does it cover medical, and this is one of the Miss misunderstood coverages is rental car reimbursement. But it's not when you go out and rent a car is is not is when your car is in a car accident, and is covered for cover loss. Now you have a car for 30 days, and the insurance company is going to pay for it. Now I do tell my listeners is when you when you go, when you go out of town and you rent a car, you do have the option to purchase their car insurance, or use your own. Now if you use your own car insurance you could be liable for when that car is that if that car is damage, you could be liable for that when a car is out of service. Now, you know, I heard different stories about this my 28 years of experience. I've learned to do this when I go out of town and if I need a rental car, I use their I use their coverages because I don't want my credit cards all tied up. Because this rental car costs so much money per day. Now they're going to charge my credit card. That's why they want cash that oh no, we don't want any money. We want your credit card.

Unknown Speaker 18:42
They want your credit card on file so they can keep charging. Absolutely.

Unknown Speaker 18:47
So these are things these are things you could use, you know, just keep this information in mind because, you know, it can happen. It happens to all of us. You know, people don't have this bubble. That never happened to me. You know, This doesn't concern me. But what gives you the bubble that all this protection that you have, they can't happen to you. And there's

Unknown Speaker 19:04
no advance warning where where you know, I'm gonna get into an accident today. Somebody's gonna hit me today.

Unknown Speaker 19:11
We you don't you don't wake up in the morning and plan a car accident. It happens. All of a sudden it happens. And one of the leading causes of car accidents today is people following too close. People follow too close on their texting and driving. I don't know what's so important. We have to take some drive. When you have to text and drive, you know, and then all of a sudden you look up and bam, you're in a car accident. And you cannot blame the person ahead of you. You know, they were breaking. You was just you know, you weren't paying attention. You weren't paying attention. And here's another one that I think that people should stop doing. Christine is when you have your dog. Yeah. Do you have a pet?

Unknown Speaker 19:46
I don't. Okay.

Unknown Speaker 19:47
I see people going down with their dog in the lab. I don't know who's driving the car. Then when the dog you know. I mean the dogs get the face out the window and he's catching the air but why do you need to put your dog in your lap? Are you driving a

Unknown Speaker 20:00
car? And how can you pay close attention with the dog in your lap? Well, you

Unknown Speaker 20:04
know, it can impair your visibility going down the road, or the dog can just, you know, get excited about something and cause you to kind of have a car accident and your reflexes aren't sharp, right? And you know, and if your dog if you're in a car accident in the airbag deploys, you got to see what your dog you don't feel it tastes what your dog tastes like, you know, you got to know what your dog tastes like. Excuse me. Oh, you know, you know you love the little pooches like I know he tastes like that. You never know what's gonna hit your face. First. You know what a visual. But your airbag deploys, and I was sitting now you know what your dog tastes like, and it's not gonna be you're gonna harm your dog, you're gonna harm yourself. Put your dog in the backseat. Yeah, it shouldn't be a law. And I know people love their pets. I've had tests before, I had a golden retriever, and radar when we took them to the vet or wherever we took him in the car. Yeah, to sit in the backseat.

Unknown Speaker 20:56
I wouldn't. Isn't that where you put your kids? Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 20:58
it was put the kids in, but they don't You don't put the kids in your lap and drive around? Wow, that's a good point. Why would you put your, your pet in your lap, driving around with the window open with your pet in your lap. You know, we've honestly lucky to have but but that's a hazard. And there should be a law against it. You know, I'm not going out to pet owners. I'm just these are little things that you can do to prevent accidents. Because when you're in a car accident, it takes time away from you, you have to go to physical therapy, like I said, the you know the process, you go see an attorney, you go through the process of physical therapy, you got to have to go through the process. You know, get a collecting doctor bills, and sometimes, you know, you may be injured seriously injured, you may you know, have break bones or you know, may take time off from work. Because, you know, maybe you're maybe not you weren't paying attention or the person that hit you was not paying attention.

Unknown Speaker 21:51
Wasn't there someone that didn't go to the doctor that you told me about? Passing? result in

Unknown Speaker 21:58
no way what happened was a friend of mine he used in a rear end car collision. Unfortunately, he worked for the fire department. And I told him he called me up so I was in a rear end car collision, you know, just got him in and what should I do step by step. I said, first thing you should do is go to the doctor get go get X rays. Make sure you okay, it's I feel fine. You know, I'm okay. About three days later, he sneezed and he had a hairline fracture from the car accident in his spine. He was paralyzed for almost two years, almost two

Unknown Speaker 22:28
years for not following up immediately. But you have

Unknown Speaker 22:31
to follow up. You have to follow up. This is why we you see a lot of commercials on TV, get a wreck, get a check. Is it family isn't listening family is not that simple. It's a lot. So it's a process that goes along with that. And this is why we have people like Christine Bodnar to paralegal to answer these difficult questions you may have. And if she can't help you, she can refer you to an attorney that can help you, you know, and a lot of times, so you can try to do it yourself. You can try to do it yourself, collect all your doctor bills, but it's good to have professional help.

Unknown Speaker 23:05
And the insurance companies I believe they know that if you're doing it yourself, they're things that you're not you don't know what to do, or you're not paying attention. Whereas if they know that you're represented, they're not going to try to go that route. As an

Unknown Speaker 23:20
insurance professional I do advise my clients to sort of to a certain point, right now when you get in a car accident you need to you need to kind of you know get like we said earlier in the conversation, take photographs of the car accident and sell the ID card, take pictures of the driver's license, take pictures of the license plate do all the right things because a police officer may or may not have to show up and if it's on a private private lot they're definitely not going to show up unless there's an altercation Yeah, then you should call the police right away.

Unknown Speaker 23:49
There's an altercation should also make sure you have the correct contact number. Sometimes people don't give you their correct phone numbers. Right?

Unknown Speaker 23:57
Well, you can contact your insurance company with the ID card but you with and you look at the ID card just don't take the picture. Because a lot of times people have multiple ID cards in their glove box. Right? They don't when I get my new ID card. I take the old one away, tear it up. I put my ID card and my registration in a white envelope. Right so a white envelope everything's right there and doesn't look like a gun if you know what I mean. When you reach for it, it doesn't look like anything but a white envelope and you can see it in the daytime and clearly see it at night right that's so you know, I know these police officers a lot of stress I'm not picking on the police officers but we've heard over the years you know years experience tell you you know it looked like a gun but no white envelope doesn't look like a gun but put your ID card and your registration in a white envelope. And what happened when a police officer shows up and what your driver's license out what's your window all the way Downes and be cooperative. You know, no matter what it is just be cooperative because the police officers and a lot of stress they, you know, they got to stop people and you're nervous, they're nervous as well I'm quite sure they you know, they it's a hazard for both of you. But you know make it easy for yourself and, and having all those different ID cards in your in your glove box, you know, frustrates the situation even more because now you only glove I got hired. That's the brown and because you haven't run one too. You hand the wrong ID card, the expired ID card to the police officer. He said this is expired. This is no good. But this is what I've been with this company for a very long time.

Unknown Speaker 25:34
Another point on is a lot of insurance companies send it on digitally. Oh, yeah, we'll just have it on their phone. Yeah, they don't have a printed copy right in the glove box with their registration. So I advise everyone to print it off because they don't want your phone or they don't. They don't want your phone. Oh, okay.

Unknown Speaker 25:51
All right. Even Even if you have your ID card on your phone, you show it to them. They don't want

Unknown Speaker 25:56
that normally they walk away and they go check you out. They're not gonna take your phone back and go back. Yes.

Unknown Speaker 26:02
